A Traditional House Completed: Caring for Culture and Territory

The construction of the traditional house has been completed, a project made possible by the support of people who believe a better world is possible, and by the hard work of the youth and adults of the Sieko’pai community, who gathered wood and leaves from their territory with respect and care.

What began as a dream has become a living space where ancestral knowledge finds a home. By supporting this community project, friends and visitors have helped the elders pass on their wisdom to younger generations, who in turn find their own value and place. This creates dignified opportunities for work and livelihood, without resorting to extractive trades that harm both the forest and the people.

Through long work journeys, community members rediscovered the richness of their land and culture, weaving together not only wood and leaves but also stories and myths that bring their tradition back to life. Grandfather Basilio, a wise and loving elder from Remolino, guided the process, teaching his children and grandchildren how to harvest, weave, and build. Around the construction, he shared traditional stories and medicine, keeping alive a knowledge that has survived despite many challenges.

Today, the ceremonial house stands as one of the few traditionally built homes in the region. It is a place for learning, celebration, and cultural transmission, a space where ceremonies continue to honor life and the living forest. Thanks to the collective effort of the community and support and trust around the world, this ancient tradition remain alive, cared for, and carried forward.
