Second stage
Elder Basilio’s cataract surgery campaign
Let’s come together once more to bring light back to both of Basilio’s eyes and keep his ancestral wisdom shining. Our goal is to raise the necessary funds by November 1st
WE REACHED OUR GOAL

Thanks to the generosity and solidarity of many, Basilio, our beloved Sieko’pai elder, is continuing his journey toward full vision with joy and gratitude. Although a recent eye ulcer has postponed his second surgery to March 2026, his recovery process remains on track. We’ll be sharing more beautiful updates soon.
You can still support us, other projects and campaigns are blossoming.
The healing journey
From September 7th to 19th, Basilio, together with his daughter Berta and granddaughter Margot, stayed at our home for his first eye treatment. Ophthalmological exams revealed cataracts in both eyes, and the first surgery on the left eye was performed successfully in Quito, followed by careful post-operative care. His progress has been remarkable, and he has regained clear sight in that eye.

However, the right eye still requires further treatment. An ulcer delayed the surgery, and continued medical care is needed before the operation can take place. This second campaign aims to fund the upcoming surgery, the necessary follow-up, and the prescription glasses that will help correct his newly diagnosed astigmatism, ensuring Basilio’s vision and well-being, and preserving the living memory and knowledge he carries for future generations.
The total will include
-
Round-trip canoe transport
-
Round-trip taxi service to local airport
-
Round-trip flights El Coca to Quito and back.
-
Local transportation in Quito for medical appointments, airport transfers, and medication purchases.
-
All medical consultations at “Fundación Oftalmológica del Valle”, including cataract evaluation, required examinations, and surgical planning.
-
Cataract surgery for the right eye.
-
Medications for post-surgery care.
-
Food for Elder Basilio and one accompanying family member during around 15-day stay in our Foundation home.
-
Lodging in Tumbaco & after surgery care
-
Required tests to treat astigmatism and get prescription glasses.

This is the power of collective care, your support truly makes a difference.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone contributing to this campaign.
Together, we are not just funding a surgery, we are honoring a life of wisdom and protecting the ancestral knowledge carried through generations.
